Special Events & ProgramsOCSTA/ Secretaries’ Convention: Each year our Timothy Christian School staff attends the Ontario Christian School Teacher’s Association Convention. Those that attend participate in workshops that give them skills that they bring back to the classroom/office. This takes place on a Thursday and Friday at the end of October. The students will have no school on these two days. TCS Dessert / Auction Evening: This event is held every year in early spring. A small entrance fee gives you a bidding number for our incredible auction, coffee and access to all-you-can-eat desserts. It’s a fun and exciting night of socializing, eating, and bidding on a wide variety of donated goods and services. Grandparents Day: Every spring we invite grandparents from far and near for a special day at Timothy Christian School Grandparents may visit their grandchildrens' classrooms in the morning. While the grandparents are enjoying a lunch prepared by the PTA, the classes take turns entertaining the grandparents. That evening all are invited to attend our Spring Musical Production. Spring Musical Production: Each year the students perform a musical. Friends and family are invited to join the students as they "Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob!" (PS. 81:1) Graduation: Get ready for some good fun as all classes participate in sending off our graduates. This is not only a time to recognize the achievements of our graduates but it is also a time to give thanks to our God for another successful year at Timothy Christian School. All should plan to attend. Society Meetings: Our school has two regular society meetings, one in the fall and one in the spring. This is a good time to find out what each of the committees is doing and to discuss general school business. In addition, at the spring meeting the elections for new board members are held and the budget for the following year is passed. TCS Track and Field Day: Close to the end of the school year, TCS holds its annual Track and Field Day for Grades 1 - 8. (The kindergartens have their own mini-track and field day on another day.) Parents and friends are invited to cheer on the students. The top students in each event for grades 3 - 8 will move on to the regional track and field meet. The PTA makes lunch and snacks available for all in attendance to purchase. TND (Toronto North District) Sporting Events: Throughout the year the students from grades 3 - 8 will travel to nearby towns to compete in sporting events. These sporting events include a Volleyball Tournament, Track and Field Meet, Basketball Tournament, Baseball Tournament, Cross Country Tournament, and Soccer Tournament. Student Council Events: At the beginning of each year the students are assigned to one of six teams. Throughout the year the student council plans events for the teams to compete in and collect points. At the end of the year the team with the most points enjoys a special lunch party. Kindergarten Registration Day: Every spring, Timothy has a special day to register new students for Junior and Senior Kindergarten. On that day, each new parent and student meets with the Kindergarten teacher and public health nurse for approximately 30 minutes. This provides the teacher the opportunity to meet with the child individually. The Health Nurse meets with the parent to complete health records and answer health related questions. Science Fair: Every second year the students from grades 3 - 8 participate in the science fair at TCS. The top students in the Grade 7 /8 category have the opportunity to represent our school at the regional Science Fair. Science Fair handbooks outlining the expectations and giving helpful hints are made available to students and parents. This is a great learning experience by students and parents. Speeches: On the opposing year from the science fair the students from grades 3 - 8 participate in speech writing and presenting. Only the students in grades 4 - 8 will go on past in school presentations. The top 3 students from both the junior and senior division will have an opportunity to represent the school at the Grey County speech night and at the Toronto North District speeches for Christian Schools. (Handbooks outlining the expectations and giving helpful hints are made available to students and parents.) Annual Grade 7 / 8 Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser: Each year the parents of the grade 7 and 8 students organize a spaghetti dinner to help raise money to go towards the bi-annual grade 7/8 trip to Ottawa. Although the parents do the organizing all grade 7 and 8 students are asked to help with the set up, greeting the guests, and/or serving the delicious spaghetti dinner. Open House: This is a great opportunity, for those interested in our school, to visit the classrooms and find out what we are all about. Mentor Program: The Community Awareness Committee has a mentor program for Timothy’s new families. The purpose of this program is to provide new parents with a contact that will help them through the first year at Timothy. It is hard to explain all the details on how Timothy functions in a parent handbook. The purpose of this program is to provide a buddy family to answer questions a new family may have about school, the buses, or the committees. Electives: Timothy has an elective program that lasts four weeks, usually in February. The program provides opportunity for students to have a new experience. The electives include skiing, sewing, woodworking, and watercolor painting to name a few. School Letters: Timothy’s School Letter Program is designed to encourage student participation in school activities. Points are awarded to students who represent the school in sports, music, speech contests, etc. Points are also awarded to those who take leadership roles in school events, and to those who excel in school academics. When 20 points are accumulated in grades 5-8, a small letter T is awarded to the students. When an additional 10 points (30 in total) are accumulated, a large T is awarded to the student.
